In a few hours will be One Full Week Sober
Wow.
Feels like a real journey from last Friday until now.
This is the first time I have been sober for more than a day in I don't know how many years - and it feels just awesome! I had no idea sobriety could be so cool. Let me count a few ways after only one week.
1) Let's start with vanity - I look better! Even after a week I feel like my face is less puffy and my skin clearer and eyes are brighter. Plus I've had the time and clarity to put myself together a little bit in the morning before going to work Make sure my socks match, shirt isn't inside out (Lol, wish I was kidding).
2) Time - I can't believe how much more time in my day I have discovered. I have been to work EARLY every day this week (virtually unheard of for me) And for years my productive day came to an abrupt end at about 5:30pm when I settled in for the rounds. I now suddenly have another 5 to 6 hours of found time. It's like discovering another life! Which has led to …
3) Productivity - I've gotten more done in the past week than in the past month. House cleaned, bills paid, oil changed, grocery shopping, etc. I mean yes, some of it is just running around manically doing anything to avoid dealing with cravings, but still it's getting stuff done!
A couple of times a day I do get a searing moment of "I'm not sure I can keep doing this", so I'm not out of the woods by any stretch. But so far that has been pretty minimal and manageable, and sobriety has been such an overwhelmingly positive, and gratifying experience that I truly hope to God I am able to resist the urge to ever have another drink again.
