Assuming you would answer the morally correct answer of No.

Then ask yourself, the reason why you wouldnt. Thats the reason you shouldnt give non-alcoholic beer or wine to an Alcoholic.

Yes, this thread popped up I believe yesterday as well. Heck, I may have started one similar several months back

In new sobriety, for me - I just don't want the trigger effect. Buying "Beer/Wine", bringing it into the house, thinking about when I'll drink it, the smell .....etc. The process and mind set concerns me today.

I know others who drink NA with no issues - most have a lot more sober time then me.
So, for now I would not. But it's for each individual to decide.

That is how I found this website, I was looking to see if N/A was okay.It was only a week ago but now that I'm here I'd say none for me.I don't want to start sliding down a slippery slope.

Tried them in early days a few times but just kept me in the drinking thoughts trap. For me I now want nothing to do with alcoHELL it takes everything and gives nothing , but that's just me.

I had 2 NA beers this summer. Don't know if I will again. I've read all the warnings against and they do make sense. Why even keep a bridge built? I will still drink a NA beer over a soda any day of the week but why not not? I don't drink soda for the carbonation and sweetness so why beer? I would love to say cuz I'm german and it's a food group in our culture and Martin Luther was a big beer guy and.....Truth is it gave me a buzz. Same as if it were olives.

Not an answer to your question, but now alcoholic drinks are out of the picture, you can choose from a whole lot of healthy things to drink. Water happens to be my favorite thing to drink. I love the taste and freshness. So that's what I drink mostly. And and second for me is milk, one glass a day.

But there are many options. You can squeeze a lemon and add the juice to water. It's very cheap. There are many, many healthy things to drink. Just don't get hooked on cola (don't want to say coke, lol) or something like that. That's incredibly unhealthy.

My hubby drinks an occasional NA beer (like twice a year). But he hasn't had any alcohol in 30+ years.

I'd be afraid to. I can't imagine drinking the raspberry lemonade flavored Crystal Light by itself because I always liked it mixed with vodka. I'm thinking about triggers here.

Well now. I was staying out of this. But after the last post I figured...

I like Clausthaler but I can't get it where I shop. Plus it is about 125 calories and 24 bucks a case.

I like Buckler and it is only 75 calories.

I tried Old Milwaukee NA - but it tastes like cat ****.

So when I went to the bar to watch an eagles game they had Buckler in the cooler. I'd rather drink that than pepsi. But hey, I'm secure in my commitment to never drink again. If you are new to this and go straight to NA beer or wine, you are kidding yourself.

That's a pretty extreme example. I see nothing wrong with N/A if you honestly enjoy flavors.

I've read on the Substance Abuse forum that there are recovering intravenous drug users who, when overwhelmed by cravings, shoot up with saline. Are there any alcoholics here who don't think that's addictive behavior? That it's okay? After all, they aren't shooting up heroin or cocaine.

I don't approve of that. Just like I don't think that an recovering alcoholic's craving should be quelled by drinking a "non-alcoholic" substitute for beer, wine, or booze.

But that's me.

Extreme example? For some of the alcoholics here, dipping their toe back into the drinking pool started with NA beer or wine and soon returned to the real stuff So in my opinion, I don't think an example can be extreme enough in some cases.

But everyone has the test the waters themselves. Good luck.

It's an extreme example for me, yes. That's just my opinion. I would never drink N/A based on a craving. I don't drink the stuff anyhow so the point is moot. But I think the thread serves a purpose for folks. I just don't like the negative connotation. I see your point though Carl.
