Definitely. Many people claim that they started drinking to alleviate their anxiety, but that wasn't my case, I don't think. Initially I drank for the pleasure, because I liked the feeling. I also did other things to alter my "ordinary" experiences in life, what I perceived as enhancing them. As my drinking progressed, alcohol definitely stopped achieving that effect and caused really bad anxiety when the acute effect had worn off, and the original pleasurable experience never came back or only a very dull form of it. It just made me crazy and desperate.
