Awesome post! I've had many of the exact fears too. I'm still early in recovery and it helps to read these success stories full of great info.

It's amazing what "normal" becomes in Sobriety.

Congratulations and well done. I needed to see this. Thank you. I made a year on December 1 and I've been struggling the past week because my husband relapsed. I needed the reminder tonight as to why I'm doing this.

Congrats on your year. I loved your thread so much. It made me smile and my heartbeat like butterflies. I'm around 49 days struggled for 10 yrs this is the most time I've had sober. The where you were and where you were and where your going. As I read it I'm like a lil kid , yeah that's going to be me I want to be like him. Thx plan on reading this again when I'm feeling funky about being sober. Thanks!!!

This is absolutely brilliant. I found that many of my fears were not reality either in sobriety. Maybe my biggest surprise is how little most people drink. I was at a wedding reception and most people had two beers the whole night which was about four hours of reception. Was I watching? Like a quantitative researcher. On Thanksgiving I watched my 21-year-old cousin nurse a glass of wine for four hours.

So, my fear of not fitting in or everybody would be drinking a lot but me? Not true.

Again, brilliant post. This should be a sticky on this site.

.
Melinda, I had the same realization! I don't run with a heavy drinking crowd, but it wasn't until I stopped drinking that I realized how little others drink.

Sort of a funny moment at Thanksgiving. I poured my friend's mother a glass of wine. She looked at it and said, "Wow, I'll be drinking this all night." I thought, "I'd have this done and be pouring a second one before the turkey hit the table!"

Matilda,

You gave me a good laugh about the wine and turkey hitting the table. I didn't run with a heavy drinking crowd either. Almost exclusively "normies."

Congrats on One Year! That is awesome. You're right- not only do those things you fear not come to pass but new doors open that you'd never dreamed of.
