Seasonal Affective Disorder

Think I might be suffering from seasonal affective disorder. I am having trouble saying no to alcohol at night and I've just not been feeling myself lately.

I live in the US northeast and the winter has been particularly dark so far. I think we've had maybe a handful of sunny days in the last month. It's friggin' depressing. As I post this I look out the window and it's so sad looking. And it's 10 in the morning. It's been like this for weeks and I think it's destroying my motivation. I literally have no motivation to do anything. That's not like me. I'm always very productive but I just don't feel like doing ANYTHING. Even activities I normally would enjoy. I just want to lay in bed and sleep until the sun comes back.

I'm gonna really try to buckle down tonight and do everything I can to ignore the dark of winter and find my way back on the sober path. But man it's tough right now.

Anyone else live in a similar region and get this problem?

I'm here in the Deep South and get it. They make "sun" lamps that can help with that in less than an hour a day. Might be worth looking into.

I'm in the far PNW.

Same.

But about five years ago I started taking vitamin D and that was game-changer for me. I finally got rid of my lifelong winter depression. Do some research - it's a thing.

I have had the holiday/winter blues. I feel like the weather, cold and grey.

It was suggested to me to take a walk. Bundle up and get some fresh air. Clear the mind and the head.

It helps!

I swear I have SAD. I live in Maryland & it gets dark here by 5pm. It sucks, I get home & I don't want to do $hit! I plan on going to Target or Walmart & buying me some St. John's Wort pills....they supposedly help with your mood. I need to do something, I am noticing I am getting affected more & more too.

Google blue light therapy. It's a light that mimics blue sky. I used it and it helps a lot.

Sorry this posted twice! I posted it from the iPad app and it was acting a little buggy.

Those all sound like great suggestions. I'm definitely going to look into them.

I live in PA so I know exactly what you mean. But I don't mind it getting dark earlier. I just can't deal with this lack of sunshine much longer. What the heck is with this stupid weather?!!

I have taken 15,000 IU of Vitamin D3 daily since last winter. I really think it helps. Ask your doctor about it.

Sorry if anyone posted in the other thread that is identical to this one. I would delete it but I don't know how. I'm just hoping anyone who replies does in in this one so they're both not popping up confusing people
