being able to smell when others have been drinking the night before....
My bf was out drinking last night and I can smell the alcohol coming out of his pores. I can seriously smell him from across the room. I'm washing the sheets right now cuz I don't want to sleep in that smell. It leaves me wondering how many times I have have smelt like that and if I was ever fooling anyone about my drinking...... Oh the horror!! lol Work! The kids school! Jesus.

Over the years I would notice that there were times my cotton T shirts would come out of the dryer with a sour, musty smell. I would have to wash them a second time to get rid of it. It was really quite offensive and took me quite some time to figure out that it always happened after I had a heavy binge and sweated when I was wearing the T shirt. It was still hard for me to believe that it really was the alcohol, but come to think of it there hasn't been one problem with it since I got sober.
I mean I use to drink and smoke, so I can only imagine what my co workers thought when I walked in that morning, every morning. But now I dont have to worry and am pleased with myself. I no longer have to take two showers a day, constantly wash my hands and face after I smoke to get that smell off. Its rather nice.
Yes, smelling yummy is a definite benefit of sobriety! When I hug people they often comment "wow, you smell really good..."
I also get to enjoy smells around my home now that I don't drink and smoke. I've become more smell sensitive, but I also take the time and put attention toward good smells - candles that smell nice, clean sheets, bath oils... It is one of the "simple pleasures" that has taken up residence inside all the space left over from the absence of alcohol and cigarettes.
I was sitting next to someone in a meeting the other day who reeked of cig smoke and realized that I probably wouldn't date a smoker now. Huh. Makes me wonder how many potential fellas who thought I was nifty smelled my cigarette perfume and changed their minds.

I have heard co-workers tell each other that they can smell the alcohol coming out of their pores the day after drinking. Knowing that my drinking habits were probably many times the units they probably consumed most of the time...well, I must have smelled like booze constantly! No one said a word.
Years ago, at a different job a guy waved his hand in front of his nose and said to me, "Whew! You must have really hit the booze last night!"
"No more than usual. Why?"
He looked mortified!
After he walked away I thought, "Hmm, what's wrong with HIM?!" LOL

Oh gosh so true. There's this one guy at work that smelled alcohol on me every time. (every day)
I quit smoking and switched to vaping and now I can smell better. The same guy smelled of booze and I noticed.
