Day 5 & a visit to the Dr

Good afternoon from bonny Scotland

I've made it to day 5 ..... and starting to feel a whole lot better. Had a semi decent sleep last night, still very very tired though.

Visited my Dr yesterday....was completely honest about my drinking , wasn't good, but she was very nice & very supportive.
She had a good old prod around the liver, gallbladder & stomach area. She didn't think that anything seemed too swollen but has arranged for me to come back next week for some blood tests just to make sure.
She has also referred me to the local Alcohol Support Group.

I'd say to anyone who's not sure about speaking to their dr - to do it. I was really worried & never thought at all that she would be so supportive.

xxxx

Congrats on day 5 and for being honest with your doctor. I think that was very brave and wise.

I'll echo what you said Shenzy: trust your doctor. I don't know mine well because I'm a pretty healthy guy. Been to the doctor twice in the last five years and that was twice the five years before. Well, healthy if you throw out alcoholism. See your doctor, be honest, you'll get honest help.

Shenzy,

I have to say that I admire your bravery when you spoke to your doctor honestly. That is a sure fire sign that you are serious about your sobriety.

Bravo!!!

That whole area is sensitive. Prodding and poking that area can cause some discomfort the day after. Just make sure you keep your apt to get your blood work done. I had a swollen lymphnode in my neck, and had it checked out by two Drs. Got a CT done and nothing was wrong. BUT after each time they poked, prodded, felt, moved it around it would hurt worse the next day. That is all part of, whatever area being sensitive to begin with and if you mess with it it gets more sensitive. Just keep that apt to get your blood done and take it from there.

Thanks jryan - I will definitely be keeping my apt for my bloods & my next Dr appt. My poor liver and other organs have taken a hell of a beating over the years .... wouldn't surprise me if I've done some damage.
xx
