I am not sure I am happy they returned, as one was so vivid it woke me out of my sleep scared. And the other was about a past boyfriend who has since passed away.

My understanding is that when I was drinking alcohol, it kept me from dreaming.

Now that I am newly sober, can I expect more realistic "wake me up" dreams OR in time will they become normal?

My dreams nightmares faded in sobriety thank goodness

i dont mind the occasional dream its the nightmares that used to bother me

Not sure how far along you are, I had crazy dreams and messed up sleep in general for several weeks after initially quitting. I chalk it up to my brain learning how to function without sedation. I generally drank myself to sleep prior to quitting, so it was a big shock to the system.
