6 months, 1/2 year!
Today marks 6 month that I'm living a sober life. In some ways half a year is a big milestone, in others it's still just a beginning. My life is so much better now in big and little ways but there's still a lot of learning ahead. I'm learning to live with myself and deal with life without hiding.
This morning, I stopped by the liquor store on the way to Christmas lunch with family. This is the second time I stepped foot in that store in the last 6 months, for the same reason - to get a gift. At checkout, I was asked "Do you have a rewards card with us? Interested in joining?" It felt so great to say "No thanks, I don't drink".

I know the feeling. About a month ago, my wife was out Christmas shopping and I had to get some dinner on my own. I thought about taking something home, but I just wanted to have a nice burger. A bar I used to go to has fantastic burgers. I decided to prove something to myself. I drove to that bar, sat down. My favorite bartender was there. She was about to mix me my usual and I said, 'No. Diet coke please.' She did a double take and poured a coke. I had the most fantastic burger ever. Tasted soooo good that night.
