Hello all. I am new here. Alcohol has brought me to my knees. I am a binge drinker and have been for 25 years now. The hangovers are excruciating and I can't do it anymore. The anxiety and panic after a night of pounding beers is not worth it to me anymore. My last drink was on Christmas eve and today has been hell. I have to do this I have no other choice. Thanks.
Hi Kris. I was in your shoes not long ago. The first day is always hell and likely the first week will be as well.
I suggest you go out and get some pedialyte or child electrolyte drink not gatorade as it is high in sugar. The key to the first week is staying hydrated and that will greatly help the anxiety and panic attack. I probably drank two litres a day of pedialyte in the beginning.
Secondly eating well goes a long way less fried and fatty foods and more lean meats and veggies. If you arent use to veggies go slow with well cooked green beans.
Lastly light exercise and fresh air will help with the panic attacks.
You might also want to make a plan on how you will avoid your triggers and staying sober. Lota of good people on here will help you throigh this. Its tough but stick with it and you will see the rewards.

Welcome Kris, you've made a great decision to stop and joining this site can be really, really helpful for you. If you find yourself with a racing mind and unable to control your thoughts or sleep during the first week, which is pretty common, try some chamomile tea. I found that it really helped me calm down. Melatonin was also very good at assisting me with getting some sleep. It will get a whole lot better real soon!
Welcome Kris - so glad to have you here.
I've certainly been there. It took decades for me to admit what you're realizing now - I can't touch a drop. Thought managing it might work, wanted to hold on to the good times of long ago....but each time it got in my system unpredictable things happened. It was great to get free of it. You can do this.

Hi Everybody. I am happy to say I am starting day 4 alcohol free. I am starting to feel somewhat better from the anguish I was in when I first posted. I have read and read everything I can on here during this time and it has helped me immensely. I was able to take my wife out for a movie on a Saturday night which I have not done in years because I would always be drinking on a Saturday night. Although a small feat, I am proud of this.
I am going to be going to work tomorrow and am so glad that I will be going there without the usual Monday morning remorse of drinking all weekend.
Thanks all for the help!
