My first Christmas Eve in 20 years sober!

I might be 35, but, I have had 20 years of drinking on Xmas Eve and tonight is the first sober! I have done an ace job, but gone mainly unnoticed! Am I vain looking for congratulations, or am I worth some recognition? Is it because others just have no idea how hard it's been to get to this point where I can survive Christmas Eve without a drink?

I was just expecting a huge anti-climax and it's now 0230 am and I am just so awake! Was really buzzing that I would get a huge well done from my family and instead nothing!

I hope everyone has a sober one! Xxx

Well your SR family sends you a huge Well Done and I suspect that we know far better than most what an amazing accomplishment you have achieved.

WELL DONE, Buggirl.

Great job Buggirl.
The first sober christmas eve in 15 years! Wow! You've accomplished a lot.
And it's a bit disappointing when others don't seem to acknowledge it.

When i stopped drinking at family parties, my drinkin mates (brother in law & father in law) were annoyed, a bit standoffish, and weren't as warm to me. I felt a bit bad, but whatever, i realized how little love they have if i make a change and they only interpret it as how it impacts them. But it's not easy to do, so you're correct in feeling proud of that accomplishment. See, it's not that scary to do these gatherings sober, is it?

Always think of number 1, you.. Some of your friends/ relatives may have their own issues with alcohol. You doing well and perhaps some of them not able to accomplish what you are doing and have done. Head high and soldier on. Many things are starting to fall in Place for me after ending the vicous cycle. Good luck

Hi BGirl:

I felt the same way. I wanted validation and congratulations from family and others but they never came. I got mad but then I realized that I am doing this for me. Come here for that validation. We understand what others in our lives might not. It's funny because here I got kuddos, congrats, cookies and trophies. Just what I needed. I'm my real life I got " when are you gonna sto counting", "you are going to be a bore", "you were never bad"... Etc.

CONGRATS!!! This is huge. You are doing great!!!

Ah BG, you have done an great job and you know it. But you did yourself, for yourself and it it is you who will now lead a richer live where you will reap the benefits. Just a thought....don't wait for the praise for quitting, wait for the praise for all the things, both big and small, that you can and will do now because you quit. They are what really count after all. On SR, all know what you have accomplished!

Congratulations. It's a huge accomplishment going through such a major, emotionally laden holiday sober, especially when your default mode is inebriation! One of our local radio station dj's played dark/quirky Christmas songs and I liked listening to them very much; can't take all the fa-la-la stuff

Thanks guys! You are awesome! Wouldn't it be great for all of us sat around a huge Xmas tree drinking non alcoholic drinks and sharing stories? Was thinking this this morning. I feel like I know so much about all of your lives and so happy to be on here fighting through with you! Thanks so much! Xxxxxx

Congrats! It truly is a big accomplishment and no you are not vain at all! The only people who can truly appreciate what you accomplished is you and those who have been there. So don't feel bad if it goes unnoticed by other people! Just be really happy inside and look forward to another year of sobriety!
