My biggest urge
I've tried and failed several times, as long as I'm on my own I seem to do ok, but coming to social situations I can't seem to declined an offer to drink and that has been the main reason I have been off the wagon, not blaming others but I think I still have this misconception that parting with alcohol involved is fun... How did u guys get past this hurdle? Any help greatly appreciated.
Well I drank to the point that it wasn't fun, at all, ever - but I don't recommend that
You obviously came here for a reason, or reasons falsepremise - remember those reasons.
I remember you mentioning the Beast a lot - can you isolate those thoughts of what fun is as beast activity?
did you make a Big Plan?

Avoid alcohol based social settings and build some sober muscles
Acepptance that i cant drink alcohol safely or responsibly is key
go to meetings for sober social interactions youl meet likeminded ppl and start doing sober social things

I had to avoid those situations. The excuse "but I have to go" is a crock. No you dont. Get out of the house so you dont get bored. Do not purposefully goto events where drinking is the main event.
I hope that you find something that works for you, Falsepremise. I think it's very hard on self-esteem to try and fail multiple times. I think it helps to give the disease even more power. I stayed away from social situations involving alcohol for many months.
What type of social situations? Construction crew after work or silicon valley power brokers at dinner? Once I learned that some of the brightest and most powerful guys in industry don't drink alcohol, I realized I didn't have to have to either. Be who you want to be.

Correct Anna ,
From each failure I'm learning new things about my alcoholism .. Recovery seems to be ladder that we need to climb, it's a slip and jump effort .. Not a u turn where everything changes the next day..

I'll have to find the exact figures but I think 30 percent of people drink NO alcohol and another 30 percent drink so little, it's negligible, like a drink a month. Very few drink to the point of getting drunk. If someone could fill in the stats I'd really appreciate it.
Lots and lots of people do not drink.

Ive started to be stern and honest. For about the past year Ive been polite and had one, honestly one. 3 weeks later bineging, the withdrawals. As of now i come out and tell the truth. If they ask again ill go into details about my drinking. I think it actually makes them have less.
