A Sober Victory
A Sober Victory
"Victory is Mine" ~ Stewey Family Guy
Had an urge to drink when I got up this morning. So I took my car to get an oil change. Watched some netflix on my phone while I waited.
Still had an urge to drink so took my daughter to the motorcycle store and shot the wind with some mechanics while she sat on the mini dirt bikes.
Then went home and got out my new motorcycles that I bought for a winter project (took 2 out of the 4 out). And I got one running really well. I would not have done that drunk or with a hangover. And I got the other one running but still kind of rough. Will need carb work maybe some other minor things but will turn out to be a good camping beater dirtbike. Actually both will just be beater fun bikes for a while until I feel the urge to restore one of them.
But yeah stayed sober and was hangover free so I got some major work done. And on top of that I feel great. I felt pretty darn good yesterday until the evening when I got a bit of a head ache but that could have been from work, stress, etc...
Anyways like I said before- Victory is Mine.

Good job!
I think you hit on something important. There are times, particularly during early sobriety, when distracting ourselves for a while is a powerful tool. I remember finding that if I could focus my attention on something other than dwelling on my desire to drink, the urge would pass.
A good point to keep in mind as our schedules are often thrown into upheaval -- added days off from work coming for many -- at this time of year. It's a good time to think of ways to fill extra free time. Movie. Oil change (reminder to self -- my car is due!). Catching up on tasks that need to be accomplished.

So I'll just add to this thread.
Got another bike up and running. Not quite running like a top but its close. I think I just need to change out the points next and set the valves.
But another sober victory.

I'll just keep adding until my bike is finished...
Got the speedo working today. Now I can tell how fast I am going! There is snow on the ground so I can only test it to 10 mph but it is working now! woot woot.
