Got a little reminder of my past today

I got a Christmas card from my lawyer today.

When I first saw the return address, my mind started racing and I was frantically trying to remember if I still owed him anything or if there was some legal charge still pending!!

Total relief when I saw it was just a card!

Unfortunately, I've been very well acquainted with this man over the past several years due to my ridiculous drunken behavior. (I cringe at the thought of what he knows about me!).

He wrote a little note in the card saying he hadn't heard from me in a while (thank god) and he hoped I was ok. I texted him right away and told him I had stopped drinking and not to count on me for any more contributions to his retirement fund!

It felt really good to be able to say that and mean it!

Thanks y'all!

He texted back and said that while he was happy to hear I finally decided to stop drinking (we've had the you need to stop drinking conversation a dozen times at least) he was sorry to lose one of his most consistent clients! That's really sad.

I'm so glad I will never again wake up in jail hungover!

Can't believe the difference in my life after only two weeks sobriety! Yay!

Don't worry brynn, something tells me your relationship is not quite over, just yet... I believe texting can be considered billable hours.

Kidding, of course, in all seriousness - good for you.

I can relate!!! I got a DUI 2007 & 2008. I knew my attorney way to well too & felt so much shame. He would send me cards too and my heart would stop. I still worry when I see cops. Then I realize I'm not doing anything wrong. I think these things are healthy reminders for us. We never have to go back to that nightmare!

Thanks y'all and thanks for the giggle, wheresthefun!

And yeah...it's the loveliest feeling in the world to be able to get behind the wheel without worrying about getting pulled over or worse. Not to mention the whole mouthwash/breath mint routine! Ugh...I hate altoids! I loathe myself for driving drunk. When I'm sober it makes me sick to think about. I am so ashamed that I put other people at risk like that.

freakin' lawyers! LOL

Thanks for the laugh. But more for the insight. I appreciate you sharing that. Its yet another relief of being sober. Never have to worry about flashing lights in your rear view anymore.
