Alcohol screening quiz
Alcohol screening quiz
I'm wondering how many here have taken one of the free online problem alcohol screening quizes? I only ask, because I failed miserably. This is a good thing! A great reminder of my problems with alcohol.

I've taken many of them and all show a problem to one degree or another. One thing I do is question their meaning (look for a loophole?). For example, I will read the question that asks if someone has ever been hurt as a result of my drinking. My immediate thought is: physically or emotionally? They couldn't possibly mean emotionally, so I will mark "no". Still they can give you plenty to think about.
My personal test is:
1. Does drinking cause problems in your life?
2. If it does cause problems, did you reduce or stop your drinking to avoid those problems from happening?
If you answered 'no' to the second question, then you have a drinking problem.

I did it once and it suggested I *might* have an alcohol problem. I used that as a free pass to keep going.
Looking back to my earliest drinking days now, I think I had a problem even back then. Even though it was very occasional and didn't cause any issues, AV would pop up at random times. I just didn't entertain drinking since I had other things to do that I enjoyed much more.
Jazzfish, I like your screening quiz much better.

That's the irony. I took 3 different ones and most say something like 'if you answered yes to 6 or more out of 14 you have a problem' and my score would be like 10. Yet I kept drinking for years after taking those.
Yes, you have a problem.
There have been a lot of threads started around these online quizzes, test or self-evaluation type check lists. There are also the ones at aa and pamphlets at rehab centers or in other various locations.
Question 1 should be: Did you look at this test because you think you have a drinking problem?
If yes, skip the remaining questions. You already know you have a problem.
Seek help immediately.

If you have to ask, you already know. Taking quizzes and such is just another way many of us attempt to justify continuing to destroy ourselves.
Or else that quiz is full of )*(&%!

We all know what we are though
I think quizzes can be useful for people new to recovery, especially those who may have a little denial going on...
I know I was shocked when I took the MAST test the first time.
