Need a pep talk

Had a therapy session yesterday that started to chip at some history I would rather forget. I know I need to deal with these issues, but it is gonna be hard and painful. And without my favorite liquid go-to, it will be even more excruciating.

Therapy, Xmas, and sobriety?

Therapy and sobriety - these have the potential to add up to be the best XMas presents you have ever been given - and they will come to you, from you.

Put a very special bow on those gifts, my dear friend.

It's the right time to start dealing with some of the hard stuff, AF. That's what will make the difference to you, bringing peace to your life. And, Leigh said it perfectly, hat a great Christmas gift to yourself.

Thanks Anna! Intellectually I know I must face things, especially since they have effectively been drowned for years... I just don't want the therapy to derail the sobriety, if that makes sense.

Seems to me like your addiction is trying to derail your therapy. You tried that way before; doesn't seem to have gone too well.

You don't yet know where the therapy will lead, but you know damn well where losing your sobriety leads.

Your plan is therapy. Work the plan!

The only way we can make progress within ourselves is by taking those issues head-on and without the alcohol, even though they are painful and difficult to think about. However, by taking this issues head-on, you will be able to find some peace from them with time.

Another forum member sent me this link about the power of vulnerability. I think others here may find it useful too. I really enjoyed it.

That's your addiction talking...it will actually be worse if you drink. Don't ever forget that!
