I have a great, "I don't drink line"

I was out to dinner with some business colleagues and everyone was drinking. I said I didn't drink. Someone made the comment, "You are in this business and you don't drink?" I responded off the top of my head, "Oh, I used to drink that's why I don't." It absolutely put an end to the drinking conversation with a positive spin

I usually just say, "I am in recovery," or "I am an alcoholic."

The weird thing is that it often leads to very positive conversations, especially with professional acquaintances.

Love that!

I get lots of laughs with, "Alcohol and I have an agreement. I don't drink it and it doesn't ruin my life."

I like this one. I'll have to use that when my co-workers ask why i'm not drinking after work.

I say that I'm a retired professional drinker - gets a laugh or two and my point across.

I hear that all the time - how can you be in this business and not drink.
