Has anyone ever tried Acamprosate?

I currently live in the US, and my understanding is that it isn't approved here and thus very hard to get from an MD.

Of course it can be sought from Euro online pharmacies, as it is non-narcotic, and wouldn't qualify as a "scheduled med" in the US.

I have an appointment with a Behavioral Health clinic after my
post-acute withdrawal phase tomorrow, and I expect they won't be able to get it, but on the other hand I'm thinking of just getting it and taking it under their supervision.

If anyone has any experience with this, then I'd love to know.

Thanks in advance.

Bobby have you spoke to a doctor that really would be the best option here

I would be wary of making myself a guinea pig at this point. You never know WHY it isn't approved in the U.S.

Hi Bobby

If that's Campral, others have used it from the US. Ask your Dr.

I don't know that it isn't, exactly. I read the research but didn't follow up with the FDA status. That's on my plate for tomorrow.

Im supposed to follow up with Behavioral Health tomorrow.

I asked my PCP last month and the attending at the ER yesterday about that, naltroxone, and disulifram (sp? antabuse), and they seemed know less about them than me

They just gave me benzos and sent me on my way, but at least that will take care of the easy part.

Wires have been crossed somewhere.

Acamprosate was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat alcohol dependence in people who have quit drinking.
Acamprosate for Alcohol Abuse and Dependence.

Like I say, I've seen others here use it in the US.

Whether it's suitable for you to use or not, only your Dr can tell you, Bobby.
