Sponsorship

Raised my hand for a sponsor at a meeting last night and got one. Now what? I plan on giving her a call later, but the fact of the matter is that I'm very shy, very newly sober and kind of scared.

Baby steps, though, right? Just make the call.

GOOD FOR YOU!

Try to remember a sponsor is like a guide in a particular part of our lives. They’ve been there and are helped as much or more than the sponsoree.

The big thing is to use your sponsor for your guide or when we just have a need to talk things over.

BE WELL

The phone won't bite you.. Swear!

Honestly i get the fear/shyness. She'll be there to help you.

Getting out of my own comfort space and getting a sponsor to work the steps and check in with daily has helped me ALOT.

Make the call.

Yup, make the call.

I just had to tell you...your user names makes me howl. I find it just hilarious and I smile whenever I see it.

I got in contact with her today, mostly so she would have my phone number but also so she would know I was serious.

Baby steps.......

Awesome . Give her a buzz tomorrow too to say hi and ask her if there is a meeting she'd recommend or you could meet her at and if for some reason you get her voicemail just leave a short message saying:
This is BAMF calling to say hi: still kicking and not drinking

Great work. My sponsor was clear about me getting in contact with him EVERY day. Doesn't need to be a long drawn out conversation...Just a few minutes to check in, usually on my way into the office.

It's gone from there, to working on the steps...Meeting every week for 1 hour before an AA meeting we both go to.

If i have something that has come up, or i need to talk/ask about i don't hesitate for one second to call him.

That's what they are there for. To HELP.

It's made quite the difference for me. Really has.

Findingtheway, I'm terrified of the 4th & 5th steps. Are they as scary as I'm imagining them?

Lots of people are scared of doing their 4th. From experience I can tell you that there is nothing to fear. It is about self discovery and seeing in which areas of your life you have a pattern of self sabotaging.
It is not about BAMF is an awful person full of defects (which you are not) but about hmmm so this is how I set myself up.
Anyway, baby steps Your sponsor will probably want to work on 1 through 3 with you first

The hardest part is over.. Well done! It's scary and hard to ask for. Now give her a call and set up a time to meet for coffee and get started!

Just call. She or he will know what to do or say because their sponsor taught them.

I'm shy too, I'm trying to get over it... Progress is slow but can you believe that I now call at least one person a day who is not my sponsor or sponsee (someone asked me to sponsor) and it isn't that bad.'lol you can do this.

ETA, don't worry about those steps. You have time before you do them, and they aren't that bad, really.

Not scary in the least...I trust my sponsor and i found doing the steps to be a really eye opening experience.

It brought up alot from my younger years and such...Painful maybe...But it helped me to let go of alot of what i was holding on to...it was FREEING to allow another human being into my inner most feelings/etc..

Don't be afraid of it.

The steps are in an order for a reason. We can't do 4 and 5 without nailing 1 through 3. Trust me, you will feel much differently about 4 and 5 after you have done 1 through 3.

The worst. Every one I know that has ever done them tipped over and died on the spot after doing them, even me.

Just focus on what is right in front of you. That stuff is a bit down the road.
