3 weeks sober
Way to go on your three weeks! That's an accomplishment for which you should be proud.
Holiday parties and New Year's can be tricky. Maybe this is the year to pass since you're still early in sobriety?

Congratulations, ANewDayNYC!
Office holiday parties -- I recommend making a brief appearance, saying hello to all the right people, and cutting out early -- you won't be missed, but plan an excuse. If you're going with a group, maybe make a last minute run to the bathroom before you arrive so you don't arrive with them and have to endure all the drinks being poured except for you.
I agree about skipping New Year's parties.
I think you should plan a way to treat yourself special for getting past those events! Do you have a sober friend to celebrate with?

Defer the worry about New Year's for two weeks. Same goes for the work party.
Some will favour skipping the work party altogether ANewDay. I know that I attended a staff drinking party in the first week of sobriety once..and had to use the "antibiotic" ruse as I just wasn't strong enough to get into any discussion bout my reasons for abstinence.
If you are worrying about New Year's..well, what is it you are worrying about?
Are you worrying about drinking?
Or..are you worrying about how you will have fun...are you worrying about missing the "opportunities" of delight or glee in festive merriment (and if so, that ship sailed long time ago right???).
This will be a completely different kind of Christmas in New Year's if you are committed to sobriety. What will you do differently? What new plans will you make?
I think we are going to go get a tree today and I found this awesome recipe for mulled apple cider. I'm so jazzed about making it...and the holiday smells that will fill my house!

Congrats!!! That is fantastic!
I had to (and still sometimes have to) skip a few outings and get togethers as I build my sober muscles. But it is worth it when I think of all the other things that I now can do that i couldn't before when I was drinking. And it won't be forever!

Thanks courage - there are people who basically do this, so there is no reason why I can't do this either. It starts out pretty formal and the drinking doesn't really happen until later.
NYC - great job on the 3 weeks - I too, am at 21 days. As for social/drinking functions, I have been to a few in the last few weeks, made an appearance, conversed, drank my club soda, and bounced when people started getting drunk. So far, I have found it to be a good compromise/balance in early sobriety between being a recluse and not setting myself up for failure by being around boozers too much. Good luck - you got this...
