45 year habit

Recently retired and having issues with my old friend alcohol. Had a 5 year hiatis 25 years ago and would like to try the sober life again. In my 4th day today and trying to stay calm. So easy to pick up a jug of bourbon and keep going till I go to sleep...pass out is more like it.

Welcome aboard heyfly

tons of support here - I'm retired too (disability)

I used to drink all day at home - now I don't.
SR helped me turn that around so I know we can help you too

Hey heyfly- Welcome!

I think you'll find this site to be helpful in your goals, which should help. There's a lot of support in here, which might be handy, especially since it's been a while since you've gone the sober rout.

Also, congrats on the five days. I'm not sure if you're experiencing any withdrawals or not, but those should improve very soon, if they haven't already.

I look forward to seeing you around in here.

Been there too. A little over 21 years ago I ended a two year sober period. Now coming up on 5 months sober. Never though I could do it after years of heavy drinking. The SR community is a big part of my sobriety. Welcome to the group.

Welcome!

SR can help you get sober, but after drinking for 45 years I doubt if it is enough. Have you considered face to face support in your community? The combination of AA and SR helped me to get and stay sober.

Welcome heyfly! How wonderful that you're taking this step. I know retirement is a challenging time to make a big change, but you'll never regret it.

I was older too when I finally had to admit it was part of everything I did. My days revolved around it. I was numb and foggy much of the time & was tired of living half a life. Congrats on your day 4 - you're off to a great start. Being with people who undertand will really help.
