Day 5

This time last week I was already drinking vodka at 8am just to stop the shakes. Today I am sober. And I will not drink today.

BirdsAteMyFace 12-10-2014 08:20 AM

I will admit, though, that today is the first day since quitting that I have felt cravings.

Hi and welcome.

Yes it’s a tough period but there is a positive to it. It helped me to remember what it was like in this period for the future if you are tempted to have “just one.”
I like the saying “ if we don’t pick up the first drink one day at a time in a row we don’t have to TRY to get sober AGAIN.”

BE WELL

This is where the battle begins. Remain stong and committed to your sobriety. It can get pretty intense from this point on.

Day 5 & 6 have always been my trap...stay strong, eat something good & drink plenty of fluids.

JanieJ 12-10-2014 10:34 AM

You might find that from this point you need to distract yourself from drinking.

Many will tell you that ice cream is a life saver at this stage.

It's good to have plenty of nice things to eat and drink and something to do-walking, knitting, exercise, movies, whatever.

If you get antsy, please come and post.

You can do this :grouphug:

Thanks Janie. I will. I'm actually proud of myself for eating breakfast today. Haven't done that since my binge. This message board is a great distraction as well, getting caught up on old posts and stuff.

Were you drinking because birds ate your face? I know that would do it for me! (kidding).

Congrats on day five!! Many old timers here to help you through this period.

I know my username is ridiculous, lol. To set the record straight, it's a quote from the Chuck Palahniuk book Invisible Monsters. Which I thought was fitting since sometimes alcoholism is an invisible monster.:lmao

BirdsAteMyFace 12-10-2014 10:44 AM

wow, didn't mean to use that emoticon. How silly.

sprout50 12-10-2014 10:45 AM

Hang in there. Those cravings are just a moment in time and they will pass.

ArtFriend 12-10-2014 10:56 AM

I thought it was from the Hitchcock movie "The Birds"

Hey birds...love your name by the way.
So, I'm on day five as well, and yeah, cravings and lots of daydreaming about alcohol going on today. Its really pissing me off too! Im serious, it makes me mad that I've allowed alcohol to take so much from me YET I continue to give it so much space in my head!!
Just want you to know you're not alone!

SarahB60 12-10-2014 11:02 AM

Congrats on day 5! :)

BirdsAteMyFace 12-10-2014 11:10 AM

That would work too, ArtFriend, there were some wicked face eating birds in that too!

Dee74 12-10-2014 01:30 PM

Congrats on day 5 BAMF :)
