YAY! Sober for a week!
YAY! Sober for a week!
I am on working on day 8 of sobriety today! Thus I have an entire week of sobriety completed. Now in celebration I decided to make a comparison chart - Kind of a before and after situation.
Nov 25th - Dec 1st (One of my drinking weeks)
- Skipped ALL of my classes due to hangovers & body exhaustion from booze.
- Skipped a day at my internship (Very bad decision)
- Attempted to take my own life
- Woke up from a drunken haze in a terrible situation with no memory of what had happened
- Put my relationship with the love-of-my-life at risk
- Badly embarrassed myself in front of a friend & their neighbors
- Entered a drug dealers car, just in order to put my life at risk. A sick form of self punishment.
- Feelings of depression, self-destruction, & hopelessness
- Drank more to cope with those feelings
Dec 2nd - Dec 8 (Sober week 1)
- Went to 4 AA meetings (one of which was my very first)
- Worked out at the gym
- Took fitness class
- Meditated with a bit of yoga
- Completed far overdue sewing project & just started a new one (So much fun!)
- Logged on regularly on SR, shared/ took advice/ commented
- Spent time with family including my wonderful nephew
- Started a new job as a tutor that pays very well
- Was present at my internship
- Lost 2.0 lbs
- Took better care of my dog
- My place is spotless
- Saved lots of money that would have been spent on booze
- Due to the long work hours of my boyfriend, I had breakfasts, lunches, and dinners available for him for most of the week
- I admitted to my boyfriend, my mother, my sister, and my brother that I have a serious drinking problem
- Feelings of hopefulness, optimism, and I didn't feel alone.
Note: for honesty purposes I have had moments of major anxiety, felt shaky, and doubtfulness during my first sober week. Although I was better equip to deal with those feelings by seeking help and making healthy habits.

Frixion...you are seriously awesome!!
I love that you did that comparison...wrote it down so you can't deny it...what a difference a week without alcohol makes!
Thank you so much for your honesty and for encouraging me to stay the course!

Hey Frixion- As has been said...what a difference a week can make.
You post is a perfect example of just how much reinventing ourselves can really help reach our goals. Going healthy is a great way to create a lifestyle where alcohol does not belong, which you've done for yourself.
Also, your attitude is fantastic! I love it when I read about somebody who's hitting this head on. They take the time to make honest changes in their lives, and move forward with them, which you've seem to do in a big way.
Some of what you mentioned as far as the anxieties and some of the other stuff should taper off fairly soon, so you should feel a bit better with that.
Very well done, and I wish you continued success with your progress.
Lusher .

Well done on the chart - night and day isnt it! This really helps to put things in perspective. You should print it out and carry it in your purse/wallet - a quick self reminder just in case you find yourself in a, should i drink or not drink mental struggle.
Congrats on 1 week - wonderful job!
