New Day

I bought a bottle of tequila yesterday with the plan to drink all day Saturday and Sunday; I woke up 30 minutes ago and pour the poison out; why can't I just surrender the control

We always ask ourselves why. Because we are alcoholics. Do you have a plan in place for times when you want to drink? Do you have any help-AA, Smart Recovery etc....? Glad you poured it out.

no plan; I haven't been to a meeting in a long time; my sick thinking tells me I'm too embarrassed to say I only have 1 day

Well, that's your AV talking right there. That first day is something to be proud of. It's the day that leads to all the other days and is probably the hardest.

If you don't do a specific recovery program (I don't but have 113 days sober) can you come in here before you drink again? We've got your back.

the insanity is that I usually have a plan to drink and only sometimes have a plan not to drink

The way it worked for me in my early sobriety was to stick to the mantra that I would do whatever I needed to do to not drink...no matter what.

Hi.
It often amazes me that with all the proof that alcohol, in the amount alcoholics drink, is not a health drink. I don’t doubt that worldwide millions die each year drinking it.

Yet I/we in the beginning did not get honest with our self about our drinking and accept the fact we cannot drink in safety one day at a time in a row. It’s that simple tho not always easy.

We need discipline in our lives to behold and act on certain facts of life instead of being terminally unique which is our demise. I hope you can do it.

BE WELL

Pattyspaw, sorry to hear you're struggling.

Well done for pouring out the booze, I know how hard that is.

For me, I need a good plan, a really good plan that covers everything, otherwise I would be back on the booze by now.

If you can stick at it no matter what, for a week, two weeks, you might feel stronger, clearer.

Have a plan not to drink just for today. You can do that, we will help you.

Stay close hun x

Patty, my addictive self used to plan out the drinking too. I started by replacing that with other things-hiking everyday, coming here, planning outiings that didn't include alcohol etc.....I agree with Janie. Start with a plan just for today and go from there. And if you feel like you are going to slip, come here first. There is always someone here.

Good job pouting it out. To get sober I had to make a schedule for myself in the beginning. Nothing major. If you look around there's plenty to do. Maybe a Sunday meeting ?

Good job pouring that poison out~

Do you have a sense of what thinking precipitated buying the bottle? Might be good to see if you can retrace your AVs steps.

Maybe part of your plan could be to call someone or post here before purchasing/drinking any alcohol?

almost the end of day one and I'm not regretting pouring out the liquor, I've poured it out before and then wished I hadn't; so I guess that is progress; thank you to all who have replied with your words of encouragement; it does help to know the support is here; I will keep posting
