Two weeks sober (7th attempt is the charm)

1st attempt: June 2013 – first time I tried to get sober (did not drink for one week) – then stopped posting on SR for over a year
2nd attempt: July 2014 – I made a genuine commitment and this was my longest streak to date. [34 days- drank August 22nd]
3rd attempt: Late August/Early September [lasted around 9 days]
4th attempt: Started Sept 6th – September 12th [around a week]
[late September/early October did not have much of a desire to quit. Thought about quitting SR 9/25]
5th attempt September 26th – October 3rd [around a week]
[Didn’t post much in October – probably was drinking]
6th attempt: November 1st-November 7th [around a week]
7th attempt: November 23rd- present [still ongoing – currently two weeks]
-
I feel firmly committed and want to stay sober. This is currently my second longest streak. :)

Good for you! Keep at it, NYC!!

Do you have a sense of what you're doing differently this time to support your sobriety?

In the past, my attempts were only half-there. A few weeks ago I fell and bruised my face (which fortunately is almost fulled healed) and that inspired me to stop for good. My biggest temptation is bars so I just need to continue to avoid them.

A reason why so many of my attempts are only one week is because Fridays are a huge problem. But one thing I am doing differently is taking a cab/bus immediately after work on Fridays to avoid having to walk near bars.

The cab is a great idea! I think anything we can do to both disrupt the old patterns and establish new ones is super helpful. Mondays are my achilles heel, and I have a new plan that I implement that makes those days more bearable. You should do something really lovely for yourself on Fridays too.

Okay, REALLy heading to bed now. My eyes are drooping. You must be tired too. Hope the weather isn't too harsh there. I'm now in California, but lived in NYC for about 4 years (moved there right before 9/11; a whole other story). Anyway, that crucible gave me a life-long love of both the city and New Yorkers.

Consider your previous attempts practice shots. Now aim for the snakes head!

Glad you are posting!
