New here - question
Hi all
My last drink was 12/1. I drank a bottle to a bottle and half of wine every night for the last 7 years. I used alcohol to control my anxiety and depression. I got so bad, that my heart was racing off the charts and my BP was sky high when I wasn't drinking during the day (withdrawals?). The racing heart and spikey BP gave me panic attacks, so off to a detox program I went! I still have residual effects from the detox in terms of withdrawals, I believe. My question is will the withdrawal symptoms disapate over time? I woke up this morning a little anxious with my HR at 100bpm. My BP wasn't so bad 130/86. I'm on a low dose beta blocker that I hope I can taper off as soon as my system is stable. I'm just wondering if the physical symptoms take time to settle down.
Thank you

See your doctor.
Physical symptoms should taper off over time. However, you may need medication for things such as high BP etc.
Don't seek medical advice here, you should consult a medical professional when it comes to your physical health.

Sarah - Welcome to SR and good for you going to the detox.
Yes, the symptoms do often take a while. I abused my body for years, but was expecting to be good as new in a short time.
It doesn't work that fast, but we do improve the longer we are into recovery.
Hugs and prayers,
Amy

Hi, Sarah! It takes time. I've never done a detox program, but I feel like part of it should be giving you some idea of what to expect in the near future. Could you go back or call to talk to someone there?
WeLcOmE!!!!! Sorry you are having a tough time. Its scary what alcohol does to us. Some people have zero symptoms, some are hospitalized. As I said, alcohol is SCARY! Make sure to call your doctor I cant stress that enough
There's only one way to find out.
Yes, as long as you don't pick up again, they will start to dissipate. I would echo what others have said & visit your dr.
Welcome to the best decision you ever made.

Welcome to the forum Sarah! I know the symptoms you are describing well as that is exactly what happened to me when I drank. We are not allowed to give medical advice here, but I know that for me it took at least a week or two for things to normalize after my last drink, but now my blood pressure has been consistently good and my resting heart rate now stays around 60 bpm, as compared to 100 plus for a period of time after I quit.
I do know that each person's individual circumstance will vary so if you are concerned it would probably be a good idea to discuss any worries that you have with your doctor. I know too that my beta blocker was almost ineffective if I drank alcohol so I would really avoid mixing those two things.

Welcome Sarah! It's wonderful that you have made the choice to get sober. It's a huge step, so be proud of yourself.
I am on day 8 of sobriety and this was the first morning I didn't wake up with severe anxiety. It was also the first morning my hands stopped shaking and I woke up refreshed. With enough time and self-care, you will start to get better.

Thanks everyone! It's weird. Today I had moments where I felt great calm and other moments where my anxiety (more agitation like) is sky high. I hope things calm down in the next couple of days. I need to go back to work on Monday
