Weekend Sobriety

So this is my third day sober and I feel amazing! I finally managed to get a solid 8 hours of sleep last night after being messed up earlier in the week...

It just sucks because today is friday and all I can think about is wtf am I gonna do on the weekend?! I used to drink the entire weekend away! My parents know I'm sober but they said they don't mind if I drink on Friday or Saturday.. I know I want to drink but I just can't... I have 2 hours left at work and the only thing I can think about is going home an getting drunk! Which is the exact opposite of what my sober mind wants.. This weekend will be very tough and boring...

I've always wanted to learn how to program so I think I'm gonna go to the library and pick up a c++ book an maybe try to distract myself over the long weekend

I know I have to stay busy so I don't drink but this is the first weekend in 5 months that I haven't drank.

Just hoping I can make it through!

Hey, Path. Congratulations on 3 days. That's awesome.

I very much understand the concern about boredom. That state of mind always amplifies my addictive voice to a very powerful level. I totally agree that staying busy is key. I wish you the best in finding other activities that genuinely interest you. I know that you can make it through the weekend!

Thanks! I can hear my AV telling it's okay. It's friday so who cares? Even if I'm hungover I don't work or have anything else to do...

Not the point!

I don't want to drink and I won't!

This forum has already helped me in more ways then one..

The only thing you have to change is everything.

A different thought process is needed. When those thoughts come of drinking, immediately they have to turn somewhere else. Have a list in your pocket of what you are going to do next. Do the next right thing.

I am early in my sobriety as well! I always struggle the most in the evenings and on weekends. I plan on keeping tomorrow and Sunday completely packed with things to do. Husband is not working this weekend so Maybe a morning run, followed by grocery shopping with the family, maybe a trip to the park and then to check out our local Nature In Lights display in the evening. And that's just for Saturday! Sunday I'll probably run, clean house and maybe run a couple errands around town. Anything I can do to keep my mind off the booze.

Stay strong Path2Recovery! We get sober time under our belt by doing whatever we need to do in order to not pick up a drink. For me that meant a lot of staying home evenings. You will need to get creative to think of ways to keep yourself busy. Sobriety is worth it; and so are you!
