Stay sober here Weekender Thread! Dec 5-7
The best way to get somewhere is to start heading in that direction. Seems simple enough. But for this alcoholic when I first came to understand I had a real problem a week seemed about as far into the future as I could handle. And even then that seemed long at times. Day by day.
We had a weekender theme proposed by Nonsesical. "What do you hope to accomplish in 2015?"
I thought about that a bit and I don't honestly know. I do know only one thing matters. Only one thing can stop me. Drinking. Or I should say not drinking. It is the teetering point for everything else I want to do.
So picture what you want the new year to be. Try to visualize being sober every day. What do you want 2015 to be for you?
If you don't know no worries. Jump on the sober bus and ride with us this weekend. What are you up to? What is on your mind?
*Ring Ring*
Welcome to your sober weekend!!!!

Charity skydive, Wolf? Hm. Sounds fun. I used to do those back in the day
My favorite was dressed as an elf, jumped in with a guy dressed as Santa. We jumped into a rodeo arena. So many things wrong with that jump,
We barely survived.

LB... For $5 I will tip you off next week. Deal?
Actually I was later than normal. I got all busy at work. Someone actually came to my desk and I told them not now. I need to get this in at noon. I shooed them away.
CONGRATS LB on 5000 posts!
BiMinin and I are approaching 4000! Of course she did it in half the time! Lol

Dang it! No shotgun. I want to keep working on being me. And finish kitchen remodel.
I had an idea for a lighter sub topic on here. I have all sorts of grocery items I've bought because they seemed a good idea at the time. Marinated artichoke hearts, spinach spaghetti, etc. I was thinking we could have a cooking thread using those random ingredients which we are unfamiliar with, curious about and maybe even nervous about using. Expand our horizons.
So, I'm in. Saving seat for Olive. She can't post from work anymore.

5000 - LB - you talk as much as I do.
Love the idea Ruby! We have had cooking weekender thread before and they were fun!
Those two things go great together. A pasta tossed in a little olive oil with the hearts and maybe some other veggies to compliment. Mmmmmm.
I also use the hearts in a tomato based chicken type stew. I use mushrooms and the hearts and sun dried tomatoes. Tasty!

I flung the theme idea, so I ought to participate, eh? (No worries if you're new to sober living and you can't think too far ahead. I couldn't have then, either.)
I'd like to launch a new career. There are a lot of moving pieces to that, some of which are beyond my control, but I am steadily working toward it and I hope to see it come to fruition in 2015.
This is an old chestnut, but I want to lose weight. I dumped 20 pounds within a few months after sobering up, but I have been sitting at the same weight for a while. I need to kick start the diet and exercise regimen. I need to break up with my two loves - eating and doing nothing! I hiked the Grand Canyon last week, but it wasn't easy and I hurt for days after.
I want to be shotgun at least once in 2015!

Non made me think. I have gained weight since quitting. I want to give my bikinis one last hurrah before I am totally too old.
Weas, the chicken stew thing sounds good. I was thinking that shrimp would go well with spinach pasta and hearts.

I saw this recipe in the F&F section and thought you all might enjoy it...I would add some chopped garlic and basil
This is perhaps the most famous recipe created by Marcella Hazan, the cookbook author who changed how Americans cook Italian food. It also may be her easiest. Use your favorite canned tomatoes for this and don’t be scared off by the butter. It gives the sauce an unparalleled velvety richness.

Ingredients
•2 cups tomatoes, with their juices (for example, a 28-ounce can of San Marzano whole peeled tomatoes)
•5 tablespoons butter
•1 onion, peeled and cut in half
••Salt
Preparation
1.Combine the tomatoes, their juices, the butter and the onion halves in a saucepan. Add a pinch or two of salt.
2.Place over medium heat and bring to a simmer. Cook, uncovered, for about 45 minutes. Stir occasionally, mashing any large pieces of tomato with a spoon. Add salt as needed.
3.Discard the onion before tossing the sauce with pasta. This recipe makes enough sauce for a pound of pasta.
