Another insight

I wasn't sure if I should post this since it might give people an excuse to drink. One of the many excuses we make up. But... I figured that posting this makes it so you can guard yourself against it and it lessens the chance someone falls for it.

What I realized was that it's ok to struggle at first. I did when I quit. I relapsed pretty fast a couple of times. But determination has broken that cycle.

The idea that it's ok to struggle at first takes away the intensity of it having to work. For me, that intensity was a factor in relapsing. I wanted it to go away.

So no. This is not your new excuse. Your aim should be to quit and never drink again. Just remember that if you do happen to relapse, you can just accept it and move on sober again.

Twentyfive, I don't think that there is one person here who didn't have at least one try before it stuck.

I agree about the intensity- there are many here who relapse a few times and are too ashamed to come back, or come back in a new name, and that is sad, because we've all been there.

I must have tried 20 times to give up over the years, but no one saw me try and fail.

I think what we can do is look at relapse as learning experience on what needs to change for success.

I believe the message is NEVER GIVE UP!

This is a life or death struggle, so keep trying.... no matter how many times it takes!

The problem is that there are many including myself that might not make it and get a second, third, or forth chance anymore. A matter of life and death for many on this site. Relapse is not a viable option.

Yeah, I used this excuse. Last week when I drank, it was a "goodbye to wine" drinking night.
And i did say goodbye, and please don't anyone do this, it could have gone badly for me. I'm just so sick of this sh1t that when I said goodbye, I meant it.

Though I've nearly relapsed everyday this week haha!
But I'm still plugging along. Hopefully this week is nicer to me

It's *common* to struggle and falter.
I don't think I can go the extra step and call it 'ok' tho

It helped me to realise relapse was a part of my addiction, not my recovery.

When you present things is those terms it makes relapse a whole less casual & a lot less 'yeah, whatever'...
