Really hurting
Day 1. Im sick and tired of being sick and tired. I need advice on how to stay busy when theres down time. My anxiety has gotten out of control. My apt. Looks like a warzone with beer bottles and empty six pack cases. Any advice out there to a new member who isnt sure where to start?
welcome, you can start by picking up all the empties and putting them in a bag and throwing them out, then take any full ones you have and dump them and do the same thing, then call somebody you know or find an aa meeting to get you out of the place.
You could start with cleaning out your apartment. I bet you would feel better. Going to a meeting helps by connecting with someone else face two face. Keep posting here there is a lot of support to be had.
Welcome to SR. Congratulations on deciding to live a sober life!
My anxiety was out of control when I first quit drinking, too. I was surprised to learn that alcohol was causing it. It took a couple of months of sobriety, but it got remarkably better.
Sounds like cleaning your apartment would be something you can do. Get rid of the reminders and get a jump on your new sober life.
After that...well, what did you do before you started drinking? That's where I started. Took up the hobbies I used to have that I had given up when drinking became my only pastime. That and read, read, read about getting sober from those who had beaten this before me. This forum is a great resource for that.
Best of Luck on Your Journey!

Hey Psybadek- Welcome!!!
I think the fact that you've found yourself in here is a great start. This is day one, so perhaps spend some time in here, both reading and perhaps posting. Although it can be very daunting in the beginning, I think you'll find a lot of support in here.
Congrats on day-1, and I really look forward to seeing you around!

Weird. I just posted this thread, just before reading your thread. Maybe this could help?

You don't have to clean the whole apartment on the first day, But definitely get rid of bottles and cans (Empty and Full).
Spend time reading the newcomers forum here.
Post as many threads about as many thoughts as you have them.
Get some Ice cream and your favorite non-diet soda STAT. (Seriously)
Remember that you have had anxieties before, and that the severity goes away eventually.
Take full advantage of everything this site has to offer.
Welcome, and Good Luck!
p.s. Even though you don't believe people when they say it gets better, believe that you aren't alone or unique, and these people really want to help you!

Glad you're here, Welcome!!!
Focus on the short term - just today, or just this hour.....I won't drink. Clean up the reminders around you and toss em!
For me group meetings and SR are a great 1-2 punch!!

Welcome Psy - first thing I did was get rid of the empty bottles. I didn't have any full bottles because it was unimaginable to me to quit drinking when there was still whiskey in the bottle. Put one foot in front of the other.

Why not set yourself a plan and have a few small goals for everyday.
You could write them down and tick them off when you have achieved them.
Maybe stuff like this
1. Go for a 30 minute walk twice a day. The fresh air, exercise will help lift your mood.
2. Everyday take yourself out for a coffee/milkshake/non alcoholic drink somewhere nice. You have to choose a different venue everyday.
3. Tackle one room at a time in your apartment.
4. Break down what needs to be done into small jobs and pick one for the morning and one for the afternoon everyday. These might be things like all empty bottles to be got rid of. Every hard floor mopped.
At least if you have some goals and a plan you won't feel too overwhelmed and not know where to start.
Doing a little each day will help too and you will soon start to see a difference.

First thing: clean up your place. Completely. New paint job if necessary. Make it as you want it to be. That should keep you busy for a while. I can tell you, changing your place from a mess to a nice place to be is really rewarding, even during the process.
