New to this

Hi.
Am new to this.
Only sober for a week.
Trying to hold it together.

Welcome, Clansfan.

Coming here is a good start. When I was newly sober (been sober six years now), I found AA to be incredibly helpful. "Holding it together" only works for so long. Learning to live sober, happily, is a process and requires sort of rebuilding yourself from the inside out. It takes time. AA has some very good ways to help you through that process. And it's also nice to be with people who really GET how you are feeling.

Congrats on getting through your first week--and reaching out for support.

SoberRecovery can be a big part of your sobriety. I joined because I had questions about AA, and have been logging on every day since. Read around and post often!

Welcome.
The successful people holding it together start by not drinking one day at a time in a row even when we want to.
Many find it important to be honest with themselves about their past drinking and accept the fact that we can not drink alcohol in safety.
Reading posts on this forum is quite helpful for many and many also become members of AA to have guidance also. The more help the better especially early on.
Something that was very helpful to me is the fact “if we don’t pick up the first drinl, we don’t have to try to get sober AGAIN.”

BE WELL

Welcome to the site! :) You'll find lots of support here. Congrats on the first of many sober weeks. :) If you feel tempted to drink, come here and post instead.

Great job on that first week. It's going to get better - keep coming back!

The roller coaster of emotions? That is going to calm down in a few weeks. You just have to tough it out. Sometimes it was one hour at a time for me in the first month.

Welcome! I'm also new, sober for a few days. Congrats on your week!

Hello, a week is amazing, you should be SO proud of yourself, I'm day 12 and that's the longest period for me in 2 years. Be gentle with yourself, and take each hour, day. Warm wishes xx

Clansfan,
way to go on that sober week!
there is a reason early sobriety is often called a rollercoaster.
hang in there, keep looking around and you'll find tools that work for you.
good to see you here.

Welcome Clansfan, from Wiltshire :wavey:

Post when ever you need to, we all understand here.

keeping hydrated and eating anything I wanted helped me through the first couple of weeks, and posting here a lot.

It will get easier. Glad you found us.
