Going to bed early vs. alcoholic drinking. Yeah, that's a dilemma, all right.

*sheesh*

I did a lot of going-to-bed early when I was newly sober. Usually with a nice cup of ice cream and a good book to read until I felt sleepy. Sometimes a recovery book, sometimes a magazine or book of short stories (short attention span in the beginning). Your body is healing. There is nothing "unhealthy" about getting extra rest while your body is recovering.

Sure the first couple might feel nice, but if you're anything like me, you'll drink till blackout and things will go downhill from there. Might take you years to quit again too, might not be just one night, you might be on it again for a long long time, maybe forever.

Add potential liver+kidney damage to the cons.

Just a couple of things. Cons: if you lose your job and continue to drink you aren't going to be able to pay your bills or to buy alcohol.

Try not drinking for a while longer. I've reached a point where I know one isn't going to do it for me so really, why even bother? I'm happier not drinking than feeling like garbage all of the time. Those first couple of drinks really did bring relief but I could never stop at just two. And the physical feeling coming down off of just two was awful. Like novocaine wearing off after dental work. Yuck.

Go to sleep. Really. Just go to bed. There is absolutely no shame in going to bed early and waking up not feeling sick.

I was going to try to write a clever "pro" list, but stopped myself. No good could come of me having drinks right now.

Thing to remember is that the carefree feeling alcohol provides.... Is an illusion, it is not really happening at all.

All your difficulties, worries, problems, upsets.... They won't go anywhere at all.

We just think that they have.
