coffee, tea and other kinds of liquids, oh my!(trigger warning)

i havent drank since 11/11. but i am consuming large amounts of other liquids now more than normal. its the feeling of something going in, in liquid form that soothes and stops me from dealing with how i feel ( lots of anxiety, lonlyness anger etc)

the habit of drinking has not come out of my system yet but at least i am sober

i'm sure this is normal, and even though i am not yet about to shoo them away until i get some meeting support(sponsors etc) at least i am on the right track

I think tea and coffee drinking is fine in early recovery. If the caffeine intake worries you try herb teas. My favourite is peppermint.

Well done on15 days.

I drink about 10 cups of black coffee per day, have done since I was young, got a taste for it when I was about 14.....one of the only habits I've never tried to kick and doubt I will ever try.

If tea and coffee is the trade off you have to make to stay sober I wouldn't worry too much if it was me.

Thanks guys.
I know i am doing well, where sobriety is concerned, waiting for the citizens advice beaurua to open so i can get support with my debts, and
I am sitting here, after one too many coffee's today, with a miso soup!!
I found some at the back of the fridge, after panic mode that my hands and feet were going to drop off!
i still have time to reverse the mess, one baby miso soup step at at time hey?

Trigger warning alright! Now I'm hanging for a coffee!

I drink HEAPS of cold water, also tea. coffee, soft drink, especially in the first week or two. I've been so thirsty for cold water for the last week all the time and have a constant supply. So much better for my body than the alternative. I'm really allowing myself anything food and drink wise as long as it's alcohol free. I fee much better for it.

Is open season for me for a few weeks as long as no alcohol or alcohol free beers. I had shrunk down my appetite over the years to take my calories through alcohol rather than food so with that 1500 cals per day gone I can eat a lot more food and lose or maintain weight. There will be a time to clean up the diet but its not today or tomorrow. I think its important not to punish yourself too much, just get the drink out of your body and out of your head fro now.

My thoughts exactly! Now I'm having a half strength but delicious East Timorese Free Trade coffee with milk and cream and sugar. Maybe not so wise at 8pm with work tomorrow but hey, I don't start until 10:30am and 3 hours sober sleep still has me feeling ten times better than 12 hours sleep after a binge.

Here's a rapidly moving yellow smiley face. I'm such a dag for these things.

i can make it until tomorrows meeting with my hands and feet frozen.

I am doing the same. I am drinking tons of tea now (2-4 large cups at night of caffeine free roobios-all sorts of varieties). The tea is better and healthier than drinking alcohol.

hi Darklife, welcome

Congratulations on your sobriety

Don't think it matters in the early days. Tonight is the first night since I've been sober (day 46) that I'm having something really healthy. Mostly I've just eaten and drank what I wanted,

I'm sober, that's enough for the moment.

I'm having a fling with Yerba Mate right now. It seems to energize me in a more subtle way than coffee without any jitters or crash. I like chamomile at night too.

I think fluids are fine as long as they don't contain alcohol. Im still trying to get in my 8 glasses of water a day!
