Anxiety

At work and have a feeling of anxiety. I had to come here to calm down. I don't know where it's coming from but it's happened before (severely) so I'm on medication for it.

I told a coworker how I was feeling and she said "fear is a lack of faith" and "your not smart enough to handle what only God can". So I responded, "you're right, let go and let God".

I feel a little better now. Going to take a brisk walk and hoping to just make it to lunch at noon. Then I'll worry about the rest if the day afterwards.

Deep DEEP breaths, Jillian2563. I too have suffered anxiety attacks. I know the feeling.
Lunchtime is a good goal.
Take it one hour at a time.
Nothing is more important than you....
Thinking of you!!

Hi Jillian,
I suffer from anxiety attacks too and I know how painful they can be. Take deep slow breaths, go and hide in the bathroom if you need to and take your time. Find one thing positive you can focus on and just stick with that thought. This will pass. Its hell while it happens but it will pass. Deep deep breaths

I think that you can learn to deal with anxiety, and get through the anxiety attacks with some simple breathing exercises. There are also some good books on dealing with anxiety without medication in our Book List Sticky at the top of this forum.

Thanks everyone. Anna, I will have to check into that because I don't want to take meds forever! I feel better now. Going to eat lunch and rest in my car. I'm glad I came here too.

Um..ya..not helpful. Although I consider myself a spiritual person.. I subscribe more to the notion that "God helps those who help themselves". Good job on posting here and trying to figure this stuff out.

I'm starting to think the emergence of previously unaddressed anxiety(okay maybe it was addressed with booze) is common to early sobriety. I know I had/have my bouts with it. I posted about it too.

Anxiety sucks. I have deep faith in God but also realize that I have mental problems. If you had a physical ailment you would get medicine, surgery, etc. mental illness is still an illness and I need help. The worst part of mental illness is that it seems to be intertwined in the mind, body, and soul. And it is not fun. These doctors need to figure this crap out lol.

Thanks. I feel better now. Now I need to concentrate on sobriety. Hoping that I can do it tonight. I didn't bring money with me today on purpose so I won't stop on my way home. But with thanksgiving 3 days away, I'm unsure at this time.
