The aftermath

I'm sitting here surrounded by empty bottles. It is a mess. I don't even remember the past few days. Going to AA as soon as I can stand up. My wife left for her parents. I'm shaking so hard I can barely type this. Hopefully this latest bender is my last. I've said that so many times. Once I feel better I think I can handle it. Thanks for listening. I'm finally sober with no booze in the house.

i hope its your last one as well my friend

drinking robs us of everything the only way i got back on track was with aa help, i didnt have an internet or a computer back then as i had sold everything of any value long ago to keep my booze coming in

like you i had to wait to even stand up before i went to aa it took me 4 days of drying out albeit i was sipping cider but even one sip was getting right back to being so drunk i honestly thought i was never going to sober up again with the amount i had drank for so long

lucky for me i was able to stand up after 4 days i was still shaking like a leaf but i finaly went to aa and from there on in the rest is history i got a sober life back
sp good luck to you

Hey Kero, good for you for taking action! As you can see, this is a very progressive issue that really needs to be put under control.

I really wish you well.

Those awful first days do pass. At two months sober, it is very clear in my head how awful it is. I pray, in two months you will feel wonderful, and begin to rebuild your life.

Thanks everyone. I was sober for 2 and a half weeks. I thought I could avoid AA but I keep relapsing.

You're in my thoughts, Kero. I've been in your shoes many times - not an easy hole to dig out of, but it CAN be done.

Anabuse worked for me, but I was unwilling at 1st

Hello Kero,
It is a very controversial subject, but I struggled for a long time trying to keep from drinking, and I just could not do it. I was absolutely opposed to going on Anabuse, but after continued failures, I hit the worst state of mind I ever had in my 40 years of drinking. I completely surrendered, went on Anabuse, got a Sponsor, and really worked the AA Steps. (Actually they worked me, because I found out part of my problem was that I could not Fix Myself). I will have 1 Year Sober & FREE in just a few days from now.

All I am sayin' is that it worked for me...RDBplus3...Sober & FREE

Man...have I been in that situation many times...I feel for you!

But the good thing is you're sober now and you came back here! I only have a couple of days myself, so I'm about where you are.

Like you, I can go a week or so, then I feel so good that I don't see what harm a few could do. Quite a lot of harm, as it turns out...

Stay strong, you'll get through this, and hopefully we'll eventually learn that there's not a question of controlling, it's a question of giving it up for good!

Hope you'll stick around!

It was a regular occurrence for me to wake up on the sofa surrounded by empty bottles and overflowing ashtrays, wondering what day it is. Hoping it's Sunday morning and not Monday. All it takes is a couple beers on a Thursday evening to set me off. It's no way to live.

Thanks for the encouragement. I just have to convince my wife to come back. She's heard it all. I tried to do this alone and it just doesn't work for me.

I registered here some time ago but got away from it. Everyone here is great.

There's only one way forward Kero - get help and prove to her you can do it.

There's a meeting tonight, but I'm still feeling the effects. I was up all night getting sick. I'm sitting here now with a blanket over me shivering.

I had a good talk with my wife. I think she'll be coming home in a day or two.

What are people's opinions of in-person AA vs online? There's no way I'll be recovered from this hangover by tonight.

What's scary is that there's still a little voice telling me to drink, even after this massive hangover. Thanks again for listening. Talking it out does help.

Kero, I'm glad you posted.

SR is a great place for support and it's been my lifeline for many years. I think you need to find what works for you in recovery and commit to it. We're here for you and we do understand how hard this is.

Welcome back Kero

I think you have to have a commitment not to drink again, no matter what.
that's the bottom line.

Whatever support structure you pick to help you with that is up to you
