Thank you SR - bar evening survived!
The advice you gave me to help me through my first sober bar time was incredible, and worked a treat. I ate a meal first, I sat at the back, I had my husband's phone and car keys, I took in two smoothies for myself (which I enjoyed a lot), I joined in conversation a bit at the start which was fine, nobody noticed that I wasn't drinking, and when things got a little more beer-oriented after the talks, I slipped away, took some nighttime street photographs, then sat in the car and edited the photos until my husband returned. His set went well - no hecklers, lots of laughs Oh, and following Low's advice to go in with a more positive attitude - I used the event as an excuse to get dressed up, which I rarely get to do these days. I wore my favourite white lace dress, glitter, necklace etc etc, and looked pretty good
Now I'm nice and warm and ready for bed, in before eleven and feeling fine and dandy. If I had had a beer earlier, I would now be sitting in a local dive talking rubbish with horrible strangers who don't respect me, and looking to stay out with them till, oh, at least 5am, when I would stagger home in the freezing cold, and proceed to lay in bed for the next two days, getting up only to vomit because I can't keep food down during hangovers anymore. Thank god that's not what happened. That will never happen again.
Officially six weeks sober now! Thanks again everyone, you stay classy!
Thank you everyone. I forgot to say that before I went out, I did an hour of yoga and took a long bath to get me in an extra calm mood. Ruby, the photos were indeed quite cool They were mostly shots of the Catholic cathedral, further edited on whitagram and instagram to make them look extra Gothic and wintry.
I've woken up hangover free this morning, looking forward to the breakfast of champions: homemade granola with coconut milk, grapefruit juice, and a pot of steaming peppermint tea. Om nom nom!
