3 days summed up, gonna be a long journey

So far I've done 3 days and feeling pretty good. As much as I miss the pub and all the things that came with it, the funny, whiskey flavoured stories and songs that get told on the high stool with the people who are not friends but just people that see life the same as you. Think that we are owed something from the world. I still see them people standing in front of the pubs or walking down for their morning pint, the day is hard to face when your head is sore and you want company after a night of being alone in a crowded bar. Funny how we choose the Barman again over family and real friends.
As much as I think I miss it, I know deep down I don't, it's just my Guinness head talking. The day I realised this was happening was both the saddest and most exciting day of my life, time to start again, leave that life behind. Prepare for a better life with more exciting times, or at least times I'll remember. Time to choose life and move forward.

Hey Owenlogue- Congrats on the three days!

Yes, I think we do have to leave our 'old' lifestyles behind, in order to move forward. I think you might miss it a bit, and I know that I still do. However, if you're wired the way we are, and you want to have a sober life, I don't think there's really a choice in that area. When it comes to our 'bar buddies' and that whole scene, it's just better to leave the past behind.

Nice job and I wish you the best with your continued progress!

Totally relate; in my early sobriety I really missed my bar scene as well. I have almost two years and I can honestly say that I do not miss it at all now. It isn't real life at all. It's all drunken made-up nonsense I created in my alcoholic brain. Being sober is real life. It will get easier my friend....trust me....glad you are here

You're doing great, Owen.

Like Soberclover says, being sober is real life. And that is good.
