2 weeks... (again, for how many times)

I am back at 2 weeks again. Been here quite a few times over all these years. All the shakes etc are gone, sleeping better, no night sweats. I don't crave at all, its just filling up that hole that booze temporarily filled up with its empty promises. I feel like I am missing out on something. Life is short, will it always be a struggle of restricting myself, resisting, denying myself.. I don't have any answers, but know they aren't found in a bottle.

so what have you been trying, to address that empty hole?

the not drinking only gives you the space to approach that hole and start working on it....

if all you do is 'not drink' - you will fall back into it.

Don't judge your present on the past. You have the power to enjoy the rest of your life. With alcohol that option is out. Take it easy on yourself. You're doing GREAT if you are sober today.

I had a void too. A spiritual void. But even if you don't have a religious bent you can still find things to fill it beside booze. But it's hard to identify those things if you can't get past two weeks.

Find a recovery method that will get you to a couple of months sober (NOTE: Careful what your reject, lost, you might be passing up on something that can work), then you can start looking at the things you value, a purpose. Then you will have something to fill the hole besides alcohol.

Deny myself the hangovers ,
deny myself the lost weekends ,
miss out on the arguments and fights over nothing ,
miss out on the incontinence ,
deny myself the inappropriate generosity to strangers ,
miss out on the isolation ,
miss out on the financial burden of the booze ,
Deny myself the humiliation of getting on the merry go round again ,

I choose a glorious sober life and am going to try and live it as fully as possible .

Take care , m

Well....there you are. We been at this a long time you and I. I drank for a number of reasons, but in the end it as all about filling space and killing time.

I have found that being "part of" helps me tremendously. I am a part of "SR"...face to face recovery and most recently, have been looking at some "Sunday community" as well.

What are you filling your time and mind with these days?

Hey losteverything- Congrats on the two weeks!
I feel like I am missing out on something.
This has been my biggest issue ever since I stopped drinking, and I really don't know why. Perhaps we're just missing some the social aspects of drinking?

Well, stay strong and I wish you well on your continued progress.

Many congrats on two weeks, Lost. You're doing great.

I think Freeowl, Annatboy, Doggonecarl and NuuDawn are right -if there's a hole left by booze needs to be filled with something else, and that takes time.
