Three months
Three months
Today marks three months of continuous abstience from alcohol for me. I last got drunk over August holiday weekend.
These are some of the things I did to get to this point (but not all of them).
1. Went to AA meetings almost every day and took a committment as a greeter at one meeting.
2. Got a sponsor and started working the steps.
3. Gave up smoking - see my posts in the Nicotine thread about that.
4. Asked my wife and family to help and support me and stopped lying to them about my booze intake (which they knew anyway).
5. Went to church every Sunday and Bible study every Wednesday.
6. Took up exercise. I go swimming or ride a bike a couple of times per week.
7. Keep a journal in the morning and read some AA literature or an inspiring book.
8. Make a gratitude list in the evening, with my wife. This has also helped us solve problems in our marriage.
9. Ate healthy food three times a day and tried not to become fat.
10. Used sober recovery forum almost every day.
Looking at the list, it seems a bit intimidating perhaps if you haven't started to do this stuff. But most of it was what suggested to me by AA - the church stuff was my own choice but it helped me to grow spiritually, as you might expect.
Thanks for your support. It's good to be on this journey with you all.

Sounds like you made a great plan and stuck to it. Proof that everyone here is right about the importance of a plan.
I am happy for you! Congrats. I am just shy of two months, and revel in it every day.
