Pour out the rest of the whiskey.

I think I might throw out the cigarettes, too.

I haven't had a cold or flu in years. I'm really grateful for that.

Hey tonib- Perhaps not a good thing, getting the booze. I see where you've mentioned that you "went back to the store," which I assuming was for more booze? If so, then it sounds like it was more for the buzz, then for the medicinal uses.

I'm big on committing yourself 100%, which means no 'teasers' of any kind, as those will only spiral into bigger issues.

Hang in there.

Another lesson learned the hard way. (I have dozens of those!)

Get back in gear. Hope you feel better soon!

Our addiction capitalizes on our weaknesses and vulnerabilities, and sickness is no exception.

Pour out the rest of the whiskey, toni, okay?

Something that soothes my head and sinuses when I am suffering from a cold is to heat a wet washcloth or hand towel in the microwave and then place it over my face; the damp heat is so soothing. BUT BE CAREFUL, the towel can get really hot so use caution.

Feel better, toni.

Ya...getting drunk and smoking 2 packs of smokes with a cold would be about the antithesis of self care toni.

Lately I have wondered if "self battery/abuse" is as much a part of my addiction as the "high or pleasure seeking".

Making mistakes is part of learning...if we choose the lesson over the shame.

Unforutuately, smoking two packs of cigarettes will have reawakened the addiction in you. You will need to take some action in order to stop it again.

Get some patches, use some ecigarettes and use the smoking area of this forum for support.

Have a cold myself - went and got some nice tea, added some honey and cuzzed up in front of fireplace.....
Alcohol loves the cold/flu.....use to relish in the drink at those times. Damn, I deserve it!

Come back to us.....

I agree with what Leigh said, the AV shouts the loudest when we are the most vulnerable. It loves it when we're sick.

I'm sick too. I sometimes miss drowning the germs in alcohol. Rest up. Cold/flu reliever without alcohol. Chicken broth simmered with garlic and fresh ginger. When I was pregnant and sick and couldn't take anything, it helped. Feel better soon!

Wink

tonib,

I too can relate, ----"who needs a doctor when you're sick? I'll just drink til I sleep, then drink some more-enough booze on board and I won't notice the cold/flu" I MEAN HEY, WHO NEEDS MEDICAL SCHOOL...RIGHT?

I jest, but only because I understand, been there.

Glad you are here, thank you for posting about what happened.

And hope you feel better soon, hot bath always helps me.

sorry to hear this, tonib.

well, you learned from it. you have to find tools outside of booze to learn how to deal with each situation. being sick is no different. if you want to be sober you will find a way.

best wishes to you.

You can do it tonib....I hope you feel better soon. Lots of people are sick these days. Take care of yourself -chicken soup is better than a hot tottie-
