alchol withdrawl im. 22 i just stopped drinking 3 days ago.im having horrible nightmares how long does this last. usually i would start drinking by now but i need to try to make this happen. |
Oh man, the nightmares. I don't know how long they last, but I am having them too. I think they are due to our brains rewiring. |
Hey markus6520, welcome & congrats on the three days! Mine lasted for just over a week. It was pretty bad on day #2-5 or so, then tapered off pretty fast and I was fine in under two weeks. I had some pretty bad shakes; insomnia and night sweats. Hang in there, or perhaps see somebody if needed. Lusher |
I think vivid nightmares are pretty common, but they will fade with time. Stick around here, Markus - tons of support...welcome aboard :) D |
Hi Markus. Congrats on three days. You are past the worst of withdrawal. I stopped when I was 22 with a lot of help from AA, and Ive been sober ever since, so it is possible. Not sure what to suggest about the nightmares. It might depend on how low your drinking took you. For me it was almost deaths door, no friends, no money, no job, no family, malnutrition, loss of ability to think or reason. Basically for the last two years I lived on instinct with pretty much all higher brain functions shut down. That lead me into sordid places doing things I would never normally do so when I sobered up I had a lot of fuel for the nightmares. They left me immediately after I took AAs 5th step, which was at about 2 months give or take. I dont know about you. they might stop quickly and easily, or they might be like mine, but either way, they can be stopped. |
I have bad nightmares up until day 20. But then again I have an over-active imagination. |
I hope you feel better soon. Congratulations on Day 3. |
Mine lasted a few days. Sleepytime tea seemed to help. |
Welcome, Markus :wavey: I had some nightmares, only for about a week though. Well done on three days sober :) There's lots of support and info here, stay around. |
Day 3 here... I don't know about nightmares..cause you have to be asleep to have them..... Sleep please? |
Welcome to the family. :) It takes a while for our brains to readjust to functioning without alcohol. Give yourself some sober time to heal. It will get better! |
Welcome to the Forum Markus!! |
Nightmares were normal and seriously vivid in the begining they fade to the point of not remembering them well done |
