My mom is the same way... somehow even the best news or intentions get twisted into something dire or negative. Sometimes I can successfully laugh, sometimes it just feels like nothing will ever please her.

Enjoy the candles, tea, and book. Also my favorite coping technique. So many wonderful changes in you and your life - congratulations on 4 months!!
