Good Bye
Good Bye
I am currently in an out patience recovery program for Alcohol. 69 days sober today and feeling great!! I wrote this last week as part of an assignment and wanted to share and not just store in a file never to be seen again.
Good Bye Alcohol
I am writing this letter to tell you that it is over, done, finished. The affects you have had on my life has become too much to bare. I watch you destroy my father, his brothers, and many friends. I swore to myself that you would never affect me as you have done to soo many in my life. In my early years I only had brief encounters with you. I liken our meetings to a boxing match. We’d go round and round in these brief encounters, with me always coming out the victor and hardly scaved. I was the champ. You’ll never beat me as you did the others. Little did I know that this was part of your master plan. Playing me for a fool, pretending I had the best of you, all the while hooking me into enjoying the matches more and more. “One more round” I started to say with more and more frequency. Slowly you started to strike back with more vigor, leaving me still the champ, but more worse for ware. Ironically enough you began to nurse my wounds, helping heal, stroking my ego… “Your Still the Champ” I could hear you say. Pretty soon the tables had turned; you were beating me at will on a daily basses. Like a
staggered fighter who wouldn’t fall down and with no ref to stop it or no one to throw in the towel, you beat me senseless. Finally you brought me to my knees, broken a seemly unbreakable man. In my dazed state, I seen the towel come flying in. That towel came in the form of two beautiful smiles, two beautiful women. My Wife and My Daughter. Two people you are no match for. It also came in the form of all the people who love me, as well as this group and the people whom I read this to today. It’s a different fight
now, one you will not win. So now…. I say good bye to you.
