Hi I'm new.. I have acknowledged I'm an alcoholic
So here I am feeling hungover and pathetic after making poor choices. Lots has been happening in my life the past couple of weeks... My boyfriend broke up with me 5 days ago in pretty hurt and in a lot of pain... My 11 yr old dog passed away last week... My daughter has been diagnosed with special learning needs and dyslexia... I apparently have a new diagnoses of a personality disorder on top of my bi polar.... This all in 2 weeks.... I thought I was coping.. . Then bang a couple of wines out with a girl friend turns into a big bender.... As per usual... She goes home at midnight... Me... Oh I'm out there until 4 or longer if I can find subside anyone to join me... I make myself sick, seriously looking back sober I don't recognise this girl.... Tonight I'm going to my first AA meeting...
Thanks for reading.. I hope I haven't scared you all away xx

Hey, understand completely. Monday was my first AA meeting and today I went to two meetings! The second day was tougher than the first but I'm making it! I have found this site extremely helpful along with AA!! I'm doing what they say, one day at a time but right now with me it's one hour at a time!
Welcome Mermaid! So glad you joined us. Admitting you have a problem is a big step. And coping with all that you have been handed is certainly no picnic. But I think if you stick around here and read, you will discover that dealing with crappy stuff is much easier sober. It does and will get better, as crazy as that sounds right now.
I totally identify with what you wrote, especially about being the girl who goes out for "a drink" with a friend and ends up home hours and hours later when my friend went home long before me.
Good news is you never have to feel that way again. I go to AA and it saved my life. Give it a try, see if it works for you. If not, there are many other paths. SR is a wonderful place and an essential part of my recovery too. Stick close and post as much as you like.
Glad to have you.

Takes a lot more than that to scare us! You are among friends here, we will listen and commiserate and counsel as we can. Welcome and good for you making positive changes. Very glad to have you.
I love mermaids.

Welcome Mermaid. Sorry you've had such a hard couple of weeks, but you know, drinking on those problems never makes them easier or gets rid of them (as you're finding out). Well done for getting along to AA so soon - I struggled alone for a month before I got up the courage and it's the best thing I ever did. I tried a few meetings, and they were all helpful, but have found the best one for me now - it's like stepping into a warm bath to go there.
The beginning is always tough - but it will get easier, and quite quickly too. Good luck xx

Thank you for your lovely warm welcomes.. I'm very grateful for your encouraging and kind words.. I I shall let you know how the first meeting goes.... I'm still detoxing from last night... Feeling crook, sweating it out so I'm grateful for you all right now... I'm sure over the next few days I will be cheekier xx
All the best with your recovery journey. Mine started like yours and if I can share one bit of hope with you... It's amazing how many problems and issues just melt away as the alcoholism is dealt with. The best years of your life are ahead of you.

Hello and welcome Mermaid
I understand that crazy craving that develops when you drink.
I used to think I was a bit weak and things like "why can't I drink in a normal fashion?"
So you're not alone.
It's not easy but it is going to be worth it.
All the best
