Relapse

I've had periods of sobriety in the last two years but every time I relapase I end up worse than before. It's very frustrating. I'm drinking more than ever now and that will only make it harder to quit again. I get pretty mean withdrawl. I wake up at 4am with the sweats and terrible anxiety and have to have a few drinks to get back to sleep. It sucks. Anyone else relapse over and over and finally get sober?

I did that for years Dave. What finally worked for me was doing something different - finding support and using it, and making some big changes to my lifestyle.

I committed to not drinking no matter what.

Have you considered what your way back to recovery might be?

I was a chronic relapser for almost two years. I finally got sick and tired of always being sick and tired and quit drinking. Wish I'd done it sooner.

Yep, I planned to quit for years and had several half-hearted attempts at quitting until I finally got it right. Know that it's absolutely possible though....no one is doomed to keep drinking unless the decide to be.

I spent a year quitting, what support are you using or are you simply using willpower?

I needing something outside of myself to create some longterm results!!

From the moment i admitted i was alcoholic it took me 3 months to get sober

I fell on my arse more times rocky but i kept getting back up for more

i got determined and realised i dont have to drink i cant drink safely i dont drink responsibly i am 32 and accept that when i drink there are no breaks its all downhill from there on in and its an avalanche of blackouts

Today i think what the **** was i doing....you know ?

Thanks for the support everyone. I know after I get clean a few weeks it's easier. When you're deep in it though it seems really dark.
