New here (and struggling)

Hi everybody!

I feel like I've made an accomplishment by joining this website. I'm really hoping to receive some good advice here.
Attending AA in the past was incredible; there were so many insights not just about addiction but life too.
I'm going to do everything I can to stay sober!

But...

AA hasn't been enough. I go often... but it's not enough to stop me and I excessively drink every other day. I was evaluated and apparently I'm in the "severe" category for alcoholism which really surprised me. I'm still high-functioning, never been arrested or hospitalized. The evaluator said: "You're not the worst case I've ever seen, but you're going to need a lot of help." Going to be getting in-patient treatment in a month once this college semester is over (I'm 25 years old and I've been drinking since 21). My psychiatrist was very concerned for me and wanted to get my liver tested. Thankfully normal results...*yay*

Thanks for reading... If you guys have anything helpful, any insights you wish to share then please feel free to share! Thanks!

When I first got sober in 2003 I just went to meetings and while I did stay sober for a five months I went back to drinking. I never worked the program. I had a sponsor but never called her. I never worked the steps.

I drank another ten years.

This time I also attend meetings but I dived in to the program. I worked the steps with my sponsor and I give back by being active in my home group. I am sober today.

The meetings are the message and the fellowship. The AA program is the big book and the steps.

Welcome, and I'm glad you found us.

I think any program will help you but, it's you who must take action and do the work involved. Remember that e are here for you.

Welcome! You can stop drinking . Coming here is a great place to start! It is really good you notice problems so young. You can take a head start and avoid a lot of the pain alcoholism causes. It is treatable by not drinking.

Welcome again! Stick around here and surround yourself with people who understand I am glad you are here!
