Books/Movies On Addiction Hi Guys, So I'm currently feeling extremely down in the dumps due to a 2 day weekend binge. I have missed work and am still in physical discomfort n pain on day 2 sober (think I'm still actually hungover). I was thinking that the more I educated myself about alcoholism the more capable you are of tackling this demon head on and having the knowledge to defeat it. If you guys wanna suggest any book or films that helped you through recovery or were even just inspirational stories, feel free to post them below! I'll start with the main 2 that come to my head: Movies: Requerem for a dream Books: How to quit without feeling sh*%! |

Some of us like to follow Sun Tsu's principle of knowing the enemy. I found it made it easier to take effective action. |
I don't think it's so much "educating" versus "reminding" - for me. Reading memoirs and watching alcoholic/recovery related films IS part of my recovery. They serve as vivid reminders of where I don't want to be - how I don't want to feel There's an SR thread listing books and films, each. I've enjoyed: Flight, When A Man Loves a Woman, Saving Mr Banks, Leaving Las Vegas, Smashed....to name a few movies. Drinking: A Love Story, Dry, and Parched....to name only a few books. Best of Luck! |
Denzel Washington...Flight. excellent movie for addiction. |
My favorite movie about alcohol is "When a Man Loves a Woman" with Meg Ryan. And, I love "Clean and Sober" with Michael Keaton. |
I tried watching "Flight" but I think it was too soon for me...very emotional. That Denzel can make me believe anything! ;) |
