With all due respect, you probably can't do it, alone anyway. The good news for us is that recovery usually comes through getting in the middle of a bunch of like-minded people, being honest and holding on. I had to give up on the idea that I was doing it, that I had to fight to recover. For me it became more about giving up and relying on the group conscience which is my higher power or God.

However, this is not to say there is not footwork to be done by you. Those in your group will guide you in the simple steps to recovery but I suggest that one take the emphasis off of themselves and their strength in fighting this disease, and embrace the concept that God (as you understand God) will do for you what you cannot do for yourself.
