My AV Is Starting to Mess With Me

Tomorrow, my sister is picking up my daughter to spend the night with her & her kids. Of course, the hubs & I are excited that we have a kid free night tomorrow. We are still trying to figure out what we want to do but it will certainly be a date night for sure.

Already, my AV is saying "Go ahead, drink with him tomorrow. It's a rare kid-free night, you deserve it." I know better than that. I am not going to drink, I am not going to drink, I am not going to drink.....

If you don't drink anymore, you don't drink anymore.

There are no "reasons" to drink; just the rationalizing of an addiction.

Drinking is no longer an option. Stick with that decision.

Thanks for your feedback. Intellectually I know that there is no reason to drink. But this is the first time I have realized that my AV was speaking to me. Before I joined this site, I never realized that your mind can play tricks on you like that.

How about a movie ? I know it's tough when drinking was part of the date night. I miss my kidless -get hammered nights....but I love waking up not hungover and feeling peaceful the next day.

Yeah, that's a good idea. There are some movies out that we would like to check out.

Man, those kid-less get hammered nights used to happen with us too. But the hangover was the worst too! Ugh, definitely don't like that feeling.

I'm staying the course, guys!!!!:tyou

Oh yeah, I was on this thread too. Thanks for reminding me of it.:tyou

I am realizing now that my alcohol problem runs way deeper than I originally thought. I didn't know that those little thoughts that tell you to drink is actually our AV.

I'm going to stay the course, friends. Even if it means I have to post on here every couple of hours tomorrow.

We will be here ! My av voice chirps up often, but I am able to shut her down pretty quick.

Your AV is disembodied....it can't doing anything without you countersigning - it needs you to get what it wants.

Refuse it :)

JT0626 doesn't drink any more. Your demonic AV is behind on the news.

What you nurture will grow. If you attend to thoughts about drinking, you'll have more thoughts, and more, and they will seem powerful and compelling because they'll dominate your mental space. If you attend to other thoughts -- thoughts about how much better you'll still look at the end of the evening, and how much better your breath will smell if you're not drinking, and how you'll be able to wake up the next morning with your husband without wincing from a hangover so you can not only have a date night but a date morning.... sounds like you can create a really special occasion! Have a great time :)
