My Plan of Attack. Opinions?

1) I'm talking to the people in my life today and letting them know I'm an alcoholic.

2) I've found a local AA group and will attend meetings daily.

3) My mom is going to call me every evening to check on my progress and talk in general.

4) I threw out all the hidden bottles I've stashed.

5) I joined SR and will read, read, read and will post if support is needed.

6) My next doctors visit, I am going to be completely honest about my drinking.

So, that's what I've come up with so far. Any advice or input is greatly appreciated.

It sounds like you have a good plan.

I have found that balance is crucial to me in my recovery. So, it's involved more than stopping drinking. I walk, a LOT. I do yoga. I read books on spirituality.

TH - Glad you're among us!!! Sounds like a great start!

I just took my recovery a day at a time. My plan was don't drink and go to meetings. Within a few weeks I found SR and today is # 150.

Welcome, lot's of great folks here and in the rooms of AA!

kind regards,
fly

I'd put 'Don't Drink' at the top of your list. Then, 'Don't Drink No Matter What' as #2. Then, your plan can be a million different things, just need to find out the ones that will give you meaning and joy. Believe in yourself, Hombre, believe you will succeed, and that you deserve nothing less. You can do this!

Great plan! Sounds like you are doing well at connecting to others and being open an honest about needing support.

I recently told my doctor, which was a relief for me. She was very kind.

That sounds like a good plan to me. With the support of AA and SR, you should be well prepared to stay sober, no matter what.

it's a real good start!!

I would add two things;

1 - get a Big Book when you go to your AA meeting and read it. A little bit every day. The whole thing. And don't forget the personal accounts!

2 - Add "Don't Drink" to the end of your list.

Hi, sounds like a good plan. I will add one thing: try to have a plan for what to do in case you have cravings for alcohol. Some people apparently never had any after quitting, but for me those were the hardest, and they could hit literally anytime, often very unexpectedly and sometimes not even associated with any known trigger. There are many good suggestions for how to deal with cravings here on SR. Good luck
